Welcome to Word of Life Study Series- Walking in Love. The Bible declares that God is love, not that He has it or resembles it, but He is the very expression and definition of love. That love nature is ours through the New Birth which is a rebirth of the human spirit into the image and likeness of God. Not to sound like a 60’s hippie, but we are love children of a love God. The love of God is supernatural and works by faith; it’s an act of our will apart from feelings. In reality, love for God and for people is simply expressed through a strict obedience and adherence to the commands of God.
1 John 5:2-4
This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world.
Spiritual maturity is measured by our love walk, the more we walk in love as defined by obeying the commands of God, the more we walk in the footsteps of Jesus- 1 John 2:6, “Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.” To walk or live like Jesus is to walk in love. The essence of sin is selfishness, the essence of love is to give- “For God so loved the world that He gave…”
So let’s love like God does, it’s our new spiritual nature to do so- through faith in God’s Word.
